On the far side of the Beacons, set above Pontsticill Reservoir, Parkwood Outdoors Dolygaer is a proper instructor-led activity centre — the place to book if you fancy a full adventure day with the kit and the expertise laid on.
Take your pick from the water — kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, raft building — or the land — rock climbing, abseiling, caving, gorge walking, archery and bushcraft. Everything is run by qualified instructors, generally for ages eight and up, and there’s a café with wood-fired pizza for afterwards.
It’s a moderate drive rather than a quick hop, so it’s one to plan as a day out — but the range of activities makes it a great one for couples, families and groups.
