Gorge Walking in Waterfall Country

The wettest, wildest way to take on the waterfalls — with a qualified guide.

  • Guided in Waterfall Country, about 20–30 minutes away
  • Climbers
  • Walkers
  • Couples

For the wildest possible way to experience the waterfalls, gorge walking takes you up a river gorge on foot — wading, scrambling over rock, climbing small falls, swimming through pools and, where it’s safe, jumping into deep water.

It all happens in Waterfall Country, the tangle of gorges around Ystradfellte and Pontneddfechan on Abercraf’s doorstep. You’re kitted out in a wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet, and led by a qualified, insured instructor — this is emphatically not a self-guided activity.

It’s a brilliant, bracing adventure for active couples and groups. Sessions are tailored to the group, and jumps are always optional.

Worth knowing

  • It takes place in Waterfall Country — one of the UK’s densest concentrations of accessible waterfalls.
  • You always travel upstream, against the current, for control and safety.
  • Full safety kit — wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet — and instruction are provided by the operator.
  • A signature moment is Sgwd yr Eira, the “falls of snow”, where the path lets you walk behind the water.
